Ciao People,
I'm back again, with a new story from way back hahaha
So one day, i went home from the farm and before I got out of the gate, Jaco (the dog) was already out, chasing a car in the opposite direction. So I thought, let's cycle as fast as i can, he will not see me.
Wrong!!! There he was, running and barking beside me. It was really busy on the road, i had to use the brakes, because Jaco wanted to be the fastest. Cars were almost running him over, he was all over the road. At some point he wanted to pee and chat with an other dog. I cycled as fast as i could, so he would loose me, but no, in seconds he was again beside me. There was a truck behind us, using his horn. Jaco didn't care and I finally gave up. Hahahah.
Jaco escorted me all the way home in front of the door of the apartment, 4 km from the farm. Where i totally being rude left him, hoping he would make it home. As he did, because the next day he was back in his cage.
On a sunday Agata (Guido's niece) invited us to go to a chocolate bar in Giarre. Named Fabbrica Finocchiaro. It became my favourite shop, even though i only went there once. It was really busy inside, and very cosy. I had a hot dark chocolate, it looked like pudding and it tasted awful. I added 2,5 bags of sugar to it. bleeeh Together with Keisuke and Agata we tried 3 different cakes. Pistacchio was the best, mmmmm really good. The other were with 7 different layers of chocolate and crispy nut and the other one was with ricotta. I started the day with a bun of custard and a gelate e granite, in the afternoon i had a pizzabread and before going to bed I ate the cupcake, Agata's mum made. I was jumping up and down. Sugar, sugar, sugar and that was the way how I found my bed. Sweet dreams!!
Guido's parents are both teachers, beside farmers. His mom fulltime and his dad parttime. The organic farm located at their house is 10.000m2. They have 80 different products. From lemons to oranges. to bananas, pomegranates, passion fruits, cum cuats, exotic fruits i never had heard about and also herbs, flowers and nuts. www.ilcontadinobio.it
One day I cleaned a house, similiar as the Etna. A never ending story! A layer of black dust, the walls were coming down. Insects were crawling over the wall. Totally not cleaned in a while/years, as for me I was not Mary Poppins. After 4,5 hours of cleaning you could smile through the window again, but the house as well for the furniture needed some good pair of cleaning ladies, who would tightning up the place and keep up with it.
On the 8th of February I met Danielle in Catania. Danielle is a young woman who i was friends with 10 years ago. Spontaneous she decided to come over and spend some time in Sicily. The first night in the hostel was dramatic. One guy was snorring and the guy down below my bunkbed was having sex. Instead of waking up at 08.30am we got out of bed at 07.30am. At 09.00am we were already walking over the market and all the touristic sides of Catania. We walked the whole day till 18.00pm. From 18.00pm till 20.45pm we played rummikub, like the old days and after that we went to the restaurant next door. We had a great time and finished the evening with 2 shots of alcohol at the Mezza Parola bar. Where as D slept great, I throw up, a mosquito got me and 2 of our roommates were walking in and out, leaving the lights on and kept on talking through the night. What a night!! I got up before 07.30am and had to wake up princess D.
We visited the Etna, Sicilian people call it the Montagna. We joined a tour through the monastry, what the university is nowadays. It was really good, thanks to our funny guide Nikolai. We finished our 2 days with some cocktails in the bar next door.
On sunday the 14th of February, or well known as Valentines day, i came along with Guido and Tury to Catania. Ones a month there's a organic market in front of the monastry. Sadly enough it was a rainy day. With my bit of Italian I helped some people. It was fun, not that easy, but I did my best. Danielle came along too and after the market at 13.00pm we hang around the city. In the evening we said goodbye, after a couple of cocktails and a Sicilian card game.
On the 20th of February I said goodbye to Guido and his family. As a goodbye present, I gave some dutch sweetness. " Hopjes" and " Stroopwafels". They added gorgonzola on top of the stroopwafels and they liked it. Maybe a new recipe for us Dutch people?? In return I got chocolate and fruits from their own garden. Delicious!!!
Well people this was a short, very short version of my time in Carruba and Tre Punti. A lot of things happened since I left the farm, but those adventures will come another time.
I also left Sicily a few days ago and i'm now in Napoli. On monday I'll go to Florence and in the middle of April I'll be in Rome to meet up with my friend Claire.

Leuke verhalen over je soms maffe avonturen (Jaco) en uitstapjes. Hoe zit het me je kilo's na al die chocolade vreetpartijen ? Zijn er echt nog meer soorten fruit dan wij al eerder zagen en proefden in VN?
Leuke vooruitzichten ook; nu Napels en uiteraard Pompeï , straks Rome met Claire.

Hey mam, pompeï ben ik niet aan toe gekomen, komt een andere keer wel. Haha ja was vergeten te schrijven dat ik 5 kilo ben aangekomen haha. Komt goed wanneer ik Italië verlaat. Momenteel ook niet de behoefte om Pompeï te zien eigenlijk. Zoveel andere oudheden in Sicilië gezien, ben er ook wel beetje klaar mee haha. Heb de volkaan hier bezocht en hele gezellige dagen gehad met de meiden hier. -

Hee Lai,
Gefeliciteerd met je verjaardag!! Maak er maar een hele mooie dag van en vooral ook een heel fijn en avontuurlijk reisjaar.
En wat weer een leuke verhalen allemaal. Ik voel zo de Italiaanse warmte, ik ruik de kruidige luchten en ik hoor het gekakel en getetter op de straten en in de koffietentjes.
Als ik het goed heb ben je nu in Firenze. Ben er jaren geleden zelf ook ooit geweest. Prachtige stad vond ik het. Echt genieten. Fijn dat je er bent voordat het toeristenseizoen losbarst. Dan is het daar poepdruk. En lekker je Italiaans blijven oefenen hoor.

Lieve Lai, gefeliciteerd met je verjaardag! En dat nog wel in Firenze! Een kleine busreis verder ligt de mooiste stad van de wereld........volgens mij dan: Siena. Aloude vijand van Firenze.
Prachtige verhalen over je avonturen en werkzaamheden in het zuiden van het land. Waar gaat de reis na Italië naar toe?
Mooie taal hè, dat Italiaans?
Hoe reis je overigens door Europa? Meestal met de trein of neem je ook de bus?
Geniet van de mooie natuur en de gezellige mensen en van je jong-zijn!
