Most of the time in Salzburg, i spent on the Kapuzinerberg. Enjoying the first sun of the year on a bench, looking out over Salzburg city and the castle, who i didn't visit by the way. One day i got company from a man, born in Salzburg and working at night time for the newspaper. While we were talking, there was this young man who at that time had no expression on his face. He touched every bit of grass that was around him, he searched and was thinking and then with his bare hands moved the pine tree. The man next to me, thought he had a brain damage, i gave the guy the benefit of the doubt, probably he hide something under the tree to find it the next day. When the guy gave a bit away of a smile, and he came looking under my bench. I asked him what he was looking for. His keys was his answer. From that moment on, we sat there talking about whatever came up. During our conversation we saw a cat on the leash, yes you read that right. They gave as excuse that there was a lot of traffic, so it was better to walk with the cat on a leash. The guy even lighted his cigarette with a magnifier. How brilliant is that!!

I ate ice cream at café Konditorei. 3 different flavours; lemon, pistaccio and coffee, so big, delicious and cheap for Salzburg prices.

One night i ate at restaurant Gabler Braü. The hospitality was top. The waiter looked me in the eye, explaned the dishes with patients, i tipped him big time. As a starter i had a typical soup from Austria. Beef broth with pancakes stripes. Main course: porcini with mushrooms lemonbutter and parmesan. So delicious! And as a dessert i took the traditional dish with a schnapp. Salzburger Nockerl; made of egg yolk and sugar. The dessert looked funny, i poked my finger into it and it let go some air. Thankfully there was some fruity sauce with it, so i could swallow it down. I really hope i never ever eat such a disgusting dish like that ever again!! Bluuuuh.
This evening i also went to a bar named Darwin. There i met the bartender and a collegae Leo who works at Shrimps and we chat the whole night.

The streets in Salzburg are dark and empty at night time. Almost a ghost town.

The next day i went out eating at shrimps. Leo recognised me and he made me tagatelli with shrimps, black pepper, parmesan and a greensauce. It was delicious. As surprise i got a huge tiramisu dessert. During my dinner and his shift he popped up, chatting with me. For a guy who hates asians, doesn't like dutch people and doesn't like fish, he is a very kind person to me and he is a great seafood chef.

    Lieve Lai,
    Volgens mij heb je in ieder geval de culinaire kant van Salzburg goed leren kennen in die paar dagen daar.
    Spreken die Oostenrijkers ook een beetje Engels of heb jij je beste Duits gesproken?
    Ook iets gezien van de prachtige statige buitenhuizen daar?

    Happy belated birthday and I hope you are well!

    I'm actually from Traunstein, which is just around the boarder to Salzburg and I'm happy you had a good time there :)

    Actually the reason why I'm writing here is because I sent you a message on Facebook (my name on Facebook is Joh Anna) last weekend, but as we are not friends on Facebook, I thought you might not see it otherwise and just didn't want it to get lost, as it really means a lot to me!
