Makarska 26th of April 2017
On the 26th of April, i took the bus from Korenica to Makarska. Yeti hostel the place to be. Straight after the first night, i booked another 3 more nights, so i would be there a total of 6 nights. Yeti hostel is situated on the mainsquare of the oldtown. It's less then a minute walk to the port and the beach is 10 minutes away. The streets are narrow, old, but scenic. Breakfast is nice and the girl at the reception ever nicer. Mladena is her name and she's really one of a kind.
I ate ice cream multiple times at Lindy's ice cream shop, he even gave me 6 to 7 different scoops of flavours, i had to try them all. Lindy is a guy from Albania, who lives in Macedonia and has 2 companies in Makarska (Croatia). In November he goes back to Macedonia to have his wintersleep :-)
My first sunset in Makarska was after the third night. It was beautiful! Small bats were flying around me, i tried to catch them on camera. An hour later i gave up.
There was a day in Makarska that i started late with everything. Another lazy day it would be. I walked 40 minutes up to the botanical gardens at Kotisina. I walked around and then found my way up to Village Makar and then off to Vosac, it was another stupid thing to do with only one orange and less then 2 litres water on such a hot day. But i know myself and that's when i walk i want to reach the end. I was half way the mountain, when i finally saw a sign that Vosac would be another hour and 15min uphill. I thought it wouldn't be that far anymore, so i pushed myself to go further up. It was a 1338metre top with beautiful view. I was nit sure if i made the top, but the signs were bad and i had to be back down before the sunset again. I walked doen, but felt such a failure, it took me so much effort that last bit. I walked back with a sad face, if i only had walked another 15minutes then i wouldn't have to do it again. At the hostel i took a quick shower, because they were freezing cold. I had to go under though, because i was hungry. Food, food, food that was on my mind.
I walked to Gastro Diva's and ordered an aspargus soup, but got an delicious tomato soup instead and as maincourse lamb chops with polenta. It was so good!! And then as surprise they gave me chocolate cake. I stared at it for a long, long, long time. I was so full. I had finished everything on my maindish plate, because it was my duty, but i didn't expect to get a desert. For me it was no option anymore. It's like the movie Mathilda.
You know this boy who is forced to eat the whole chocolate cake in front of the entire school. When i was on the mountain i dreamed of chocolate, now i think i shouldn't have dreamed about it. Whahaha. In the end i did eat the delicious chocolate cake with cherry sauce. Roll me down the mainsquare Please!
It was a nice treat to finish the day with. Oh i forgot to tell you that i met a snake on the way up. The snake jumped straight in front of me to the otherside of the path. I gave a little shriek and the 60cm long, flexible light brown/yellow snake was vanished as quick as it showed himself.
The next morning i woke up at 07.00am, i was considering to go back to the bloody mountain, finishing what i missed out on the previous day, but my toes and feet hurted to much, that i had to face my failure :-(. Instead i went to the main beach, the water looked invited, but i first had to go to the toilet. I searched and searched, but there was no public toilet around and the water was so clear that i didn't dare to do it in the water. Also there were no bushes around either. I dressed myself and eventually after more then half hour i found an OPEN public toilet. After toilet time off to the port, on the otherside there's a small beach where i closed my eyes and slept peacefull for a bit. I woke up by the tourists stepping over me for the greatest photo. It was crazy! It weren't even asian, can you imagine?? It took forever to get rid of them, but when they finally left volunteering ;-) i made my way into the water. I had been starring at the water for days and now i took the challenge. It was delighted.
Mladena would be at the boulevard making fritula's. I bought a small cup, but went straight back for the biggest cup and ate them all. Fritula's are similair to our own deep-fried solid doughnuts, the ones we serve with new year, but much lighter. From 16.00pm to 19.30pm i stood next to her, watching her working. She just doesn't stop working. That evening i went back to Gastro Diva's, but my appetite was less. I hadn't worked for it as the day before. I left the venue early, because i felt outnumbered with all the beautiful dressed up woman around me.
On the 2th of May i left Yeti's hostel and Mladena and the staff gave me a present. I got a Makarska house, a heavy piece of concrete ;-). Together with Mladena and her boyfriend i drank a coffee and then they waved me goodbye. I had a really good time in Makarska and i'll be back soon!
Ciao
